September - October, 2006: Temple Chai celebrates the High Hold Days. Pictures from Yom Kippur Service.

May 16th, 2006: Japan Christian Friends of Israel perform at the Josephine Street Theater.

May 12-13th, 2006:  Rabbi Hillel Katzir was our Guest Rabbi for a special weekend of prayer and study. 

March 3, 2006:  UTSA  Hillel and Temple Chai celebrated Shabbat Across America at Friday Evening Services which was followed by a dinner hosted by UTSA Hillel. 

February 24, 2006:  Temple Chai celebrated its First Anniversary with a service and dinner.  Over one hundred people attended services and many stayed for the dinner following the service.  Photo page.

February 11, 2006:  Consuelo Luz was our guest at the morning services.  We were pleased to have her presence and hear her lovely voice.  Consuelo Luz was Temple Beth-El's Artist-in-Residence for Shabbat Shirah and made arrangements for her to be at our Shabbat morning service.

December 16, 2005:  Temple Chai held its first Chanukah Service and Dinner.  Services were followed by a Latke Dinner and the production of the "Chanukah Guest."  The "Chanukah Guest" was produced by Linda Kaufman and featured Bobi Stern, George Stern and  Visvikis.  Michael Stern provided musical accompaniment and Warren Zwick assisted with sound effects.  Click for Photo Page.

November 18, 2005:  Ali Haider and Shalom Dichter from Sikkuy (Association for the Advancement of Civic Equality in Israel) spoke at shabbat services about the work and importance of Sikkuy.  Sikkuy is a non-partisan organization that develops and implements projects to advance civic equality in Israel.

November 4, 2005:  Cantor David Silverstein was installed as the Spiritual Leader of Temple Chai.  See article for more details.

September and October 2005:  Temple Chai celebrated its first High Holy Days.  Pictures of Selichot and Rosh Hashanah Eve show the joyous Congregation.  Pictures from Yom Kippur services.  Pictures from Simchat Torah.  At Simchat Torah it was announced that Temple Chai now has a Torah scroll of its own, thanks to an anonymous donor.

September 10, 2005:  Temple Chai celebrated its first Bar Mitzvah.  Max Weaver, son of Kathy Weaver and Don Weaver, celebrated his Bar Mitzvah.

September 4, 2005:  Temple Chai volunteers work at the SA Food Bank to assist relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina.

August 26, 2005:  Eliezer Rivlin, national staff member of American Friends of Magen David, spoke at shabbat services.  Mel Cohen, President of Temple Chai announced that Porter Loring III made a very generous gift to the Temple.

July 29, 2005:  Over 100 people attended services which was followed by the first Shabbat Dinner held by Temple Chai at the Jewish Campus.  The beautiful new ark was dedicated.  We give thanks to the many families who have supported us with special gifts of prayer books, religious school books, computers and the ark.

July 1, 2005:  Temple Chai conducted its first regular Shabbat service under the leadership of Cantor David Silverstein at the Campus.  At this service the torah scroll on loan from Congregation Beth El Binah of Dallas was lovingly used.

Golden Manor Jewish Home for the Aged was warmly thanked for their tremendous help in getting Temple Chai started by allowing us the use of their chapel.

June 21, 2005:  The Board of Directors and Officers were elected at the annual meeting.  At that meeting Cantor David Silverstein was elected Spiritual Leader for Temple Chai.

June 10, 2005:  Mel Cohen, President of Temple Chai, announced that arrangements have been made to secure a Torah scroll.  Congregation Beth El Binah of Dallas Texas has generously offered to loan us a scroll until we can obtain one of our own.  We offer our sincere thanks and appreciation to Congregation Beth El Binah.  The Torah scroll should arrive in time for our first service at the Jewish Campus on July 1st at 6:30 PM.  At that service Cantor David Silverstein will assume his position as Spiritual Leader of Temple Chai. 

April 22, 2005:  Cantor David Silverstein lead services for Shabbat Hagadol.  It was Temple Chai's first service that was totally clergy conducted.  It was announced at this service that Cantor Silverstein would become Temple Chai's spiritual leader on July 1, 2005.

March 10, 2005:  The State of Texas Articles of Incorporation and Federal ID number have been received.

March 1, 2005:  The monthly board meeting was held.  It was reported that the State of Texas incorporation documents were complete and federal ID number procurement and 501(C)3 status are pending.  The application from the Union of Reform Judaism was received and a committee was formed to complete it.  The By-Laws were approved.

February 25, 2005:  Temple Chai conducted its first worship service.  The service was lead by Marcia Goren Weser.  The  service began with Doris Toubin lighting and blessing the shabbath candles, Elliot Weser gave the d'var torah, Norman Cohn and George Stern chanted the Torah blessings and Jimmy Toubin lead the Congregation with the blessing over the wine.  Linda Kaufman provided musical accompaniment and performed an original piece titled Tapestry.

After the service the Congregation sang the motzi and shared hallah together.
